After an amazing year where we all soared to success, District 61 was recognized at the International Conference as a Distinguished District for the year 2008-2009. In July I was honoured to receive the call from International President Jana Barnhill to congratulate all the members of District 61 for our growth this year. We completed the year with 183 clubs and over 4,000 members. Toastmasters establishes four measures for a district to be distinguished and we surpassed all four. It means that our district is healthy. Our members are growing, as are our clubs. In addition to recognizing districts, Toastmasters International also recognizes the trio officers with an award. Congratulations to LGET Leona Hamel, DTM. Leona led the district to achieving its educational goals, and was honoured on stage at the International Convention in Connecticut with the Excellence in Education and Training award. Congratulations also go to LGM Lise Blondin, DTM. Lise worked tirelessly to lead the district to meeting its membership and club goals, and as a result Lise had the honour to be on stage to receive her Excellence in Marketing award. As your district governor, I had the privilege to work with both these dedicated ladies and watch them work their magic and for that honour, I also got to go on stage to receive the Excellence in Leadership award. In my case however, I share that honour with two special Toastmasters in our district. Whereas the Excellence in Marketing and in Education and Training recognize the efforts of one year, the Excellence in Leadership award recognizes districts that have been distinguished three years in a row. I could not have received this award without the large and dedicated effort of my two preceding District Governors. My sincere thanks to ID Sue Dalati DTM and PDG Simon Parcher DTM, I had the pleasure of receiving this award along with all the members of District 61 that were at the International Conference. All our achievements last year were not only due to the effort of Lise and Leona, but due also to the hard effort of the amazing executive team I had the privilege to work with last year. They are...

Congratulations to IPIP Chris Ford, DTM, who at the International Convention was presented with the International President’s Citation. Beyond this executive team, the success of the district really comes down to the strength of its members. Our members gained a lot last year and every one of them was a Star as they soared to success. Frank Schilder M.B., DTM Sue Dalati, DTM has been elected “International Director, Region VI (2009-2011) ! More than twenty Toastmasters from District 61 attended the 78th International Conventional in Mashantucket, Connecticut, showing support for this incredible woman, past District 61 Governor (2006-2007). Sue will be working side-by-side with Kristal DiCarlo, DTM - International Director, Region VI (2008-2010) this year. On behalf of Sue and the District 61 Executive, we wish to thank all the clubs who showed their support by sending in their proxy in time for the Region Conference and International Convention.
